Happy Knife; Happy Life

Any seasoned chef will preach the first step to preparing fabulous food is a sharp knife.  The art of knife upkeep is ancient andprecise, and our friends at Loubat Foodservice Equipment periodically offer "Knife Sharpening" events where customers can bring straight and serrated blades to be professionally sharpened for an affordable $2 to $4 per blade.

Looking to do it yourself? Keep your knives on the straight and narrow with these tips and video from café b chef Chris Montero.

1) Clean your knives after each use with soapy, hot water and dry them well.
2) Sharpen your knives only once or twice a year, but hone your knives regularly.
3) Wooden and plastic boards have a less dulling effect on knives than harder surfaces such as glass, ceramic or marble.
